Got Your Piece of the Pie?

How much? What is fair? Who gets to decide? We have a rule in our house about sharing food; if more than one person wants something – one gets to cut and the other gets to choose, period. You don’t get to do both.

But when it comes to life and possessions, it becomes a whole other ball game, right? The thought of defining success and "enough" lies completely in eye of the beholder because it can be so different for each person. I really want to help here, but I feel hesitant…oh well just deal with it.

We are not entitled to anything. Even what we have earned, we have because of who we are and the natural gifts and talents we have. I love the movie 'Rudy'. It shows that with really, really hard work, maybe you can get in the game. But Rudy did not go on to a professional football career; he just wasn’t gifted in that area. That just seems unfair, but who promised life would be fair?

Here it is: First, it is not your pie to begin with. Second, we are seeking the wrong piece. Really? Yes, so let’s shut our pie holes long enough to hear this: It is His pie, and we need to seek His peace.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)

Kids always want to know why, and to be completely honest, we grow up and never really stop asking. We worry and stress trying to figure things out. But as we grow, we might start to see that some questions just don’t have answers, or at least that the answers don’t come when we want them too. Maybe the answer we feel we are entitled to is not the “piece” we need, but realizing that God has a plan and purpose; we get a different “peace”…one that is life changing.

…just sayin’
