What's Next?

Worry much? Simply put, worry is a one word answer to the age old question, “What’s next?”. Often times we find ourselves wrapped up in what can or might happen next. This can lead to over planning and create undo amounts of stress. Some people live entirely in the moment, creating the opposite effect with lack of planning creating a worry about whether or not one is adequately prepared. It seems like there is no middle ground, is there? There has to be balance.

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matt. 6:34

Balance is possible, and occurs when we combine stewardship of what we have with faithful confidence of where we are going. Let me explain. Stewardship of what we have simply means using the available resources at our disposal to plan as best we can, being prepared, but knowing there are going to be things that will happen that are unplanned for.

Next, is the faithful confidence that we are moving in the right direction. The right direction is discovered when you realize you are where you are supposed to be, and utilize the instruction book (Bible) for where you need to go. The Bible is kind of like GPS for our spiritual lives. The Bible offers a heading or direction that we need to move in, all the while the destination is to be where you are “in Christ”. In other words, when we are in Christ, we are always where we are supposed to be.

As an example, I have a tendency to get lost, believe it or not. Even with GPS I get caught up in my surroundings and forget to consider where I need to go. It is the same with our spiritual journey if you will. We get moving so fast with so many distractions in our lives we forget to consider where we are trying to go, and our spiritual journeys become one course correction after another.

What most of us need to do when it comes to worry is to Stop, Drop, and Roll. Remember the old fire drill? This works so well here:

STOP – “Be still and know that I am God…” Psalm 46:10

DROP – to our knees and pray “When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him.” Mark 5:6

ROLL – Accept what He has done…“They found the stone rolled away from the tomb.” Luke 24:2

If what God has done through Jesus is enough, then we need to Stop, Drop, and Roll to Him…Get it?

…just sayin’

In His Grip,

Pastor Pat
